Ronald Walters Sr. is a Settlement Consultant with Sage Settlement Consulting. Ronald has extensive experience in the settlement planning industry. He has worked on cases across every area of claims settlement and trust work, including mass torts, medical mal practice, Defense Base Act, Longshore Act, taxable settlements, and equity-based programs.
Ronald began is career in the life insurance industry in 1974 with Midland Mutual Life, during which time he also taught economics at Fairmont State University. In 1978, Ronald joined McDonough Caperton as the Vice President of Employee Benefits. He specialized in ERISA self-insured healthcare plan management, where he helped develop the firm’s claims processing ability while consulting with large self-insured medical programs and developing reinsurance programs. From there, Ronald continued his benefits consulting work at Devan and Company as their President of Employee Benefits.
In 1988, Ronald transitioned to the structured settlement industry. He spent the next 30+ years working primarily on the defense side before shifting to plaintiff-focused settlement planning.
In addition to benefits consulting and settlement planning, Ronald served in the West Virginia House of Delegates from 1993-2018. During that time, he was an active member of the Banking and Insurance committees, including roles as Chair of Banking and Chair of Pensions. Ronald also oversaw the budget for the Department of Health and Human Services.
Ronald graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in Economics. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Medical Economics. He resides in West Virginia, where he has the pleasure of working with his sons Chris and Ron Walters Jr.
